According to news on March 6, it is reported that it is easy to buy electronic cigarettes or electronic cigarettes online overseas. When we checked the website of selling electronic cigarettes to Australia and New Zealand sellers, we discovered various marketing statements that were false, false or misleading.

In our new research, we outline how these health statements are included -how electronic cigarettes contain zero carcinogen, how to effectively help quit smoking, and improve breathing within a few days.

Electronic cigarettes are also promoted as sexy, fashionable and environmentally friendly.

We have seen a series of products selling -including several entry -level kits bundled together. Most electronic cigarette liquid contain nicotine. There are price discounts, loyalty plans and free delivery.

This is why this is such a worrying question and what we can do.

What did we do and what did we find

We surveyed 20 Australian and New Zealand e -cigarettes and electronic cigarette products online retailers.

We have studied their product scope, how they verify the age of buyers, and their marketing strategies and statements.

Most websites only need to click a box to confirm that they are 18 years old. When buyers click to browse, they can find a series of nicotine and electronic cigarettes and electronic cigarette liquids excluding nicotine. Some people do not ask the buyer's age at all. Only one website needs to verify their age through formal identity proof.

Weird marketing claim

The health statement that has not been confirmed or blatant and false is the most common statement we have discovered. These include:

Electronic cigarettes have proven to be 95%lower than cigarettes.

This statement stems from a criticism that has been criticized for lack of solid evidence, but it is still a common saying.

Other health statements include:

You will feel your breathing will improve in a few days.

as well as:

If you are pumping liquids with high -quality tests, the carcinogens you inhale may be zero.

When talking about quitting smoking, the website claimed:

Compared with Nicotine's replacement therapy (including patch and gum), electronic cigarettes are more effective tools for helping smokers to quit smoking.

These claims are not based, because whether these products can help people quit smoking. An important review of the literature found that there was no sufficient evidence to promote electronic cigarettes for this.

There are also environmental statements, such as:

Do not buy disposable electronic cigarettes that cannot be completely recovered -our equipment is friendly to the earth.

The marketing of electronic cigarette products as creative, innovative, fashionable, sexy and environmentally friendly products will particularly attract young buyers.

We discovered the opportunity of multiple payment methods, price discounts, and earning loyalty discounts. The delivery options include postal and express services. Sometimes delivery is free.

Why is this a question?

Electronic cigarettes are not harmless products. They include hundreds of chemicals, which come from electronic liquid, device and formed by heating elements, many of which are toxic. Risks include addiction, poisoning, epileptic seizures, burns and injuries, lung damage and environmental pollution (from plastic and lithium batteries).

From 2013 to 2019, the use of electronic cigarettes in Australian adults has almost tripled, and young people have also become electronic cigarettes in groups.

It is very popular to buy electronic cigarettes online. A research report in Australia stated that teenagers mainly obtained electronic cigarettes from friends. However, adults (over 25 years old) tend to buy online. Friends who provide electronic cigarettes to teenagers are likely to buy some of these electronic cigarettes online.

An international study also reported that most Australians (65.2%) bought electronic cigarette products online. In fact, the study found that Australians are many times more likely to buy them online compared with Canadian, the United States, and Britain.

What do you need to do next?

Only adults with doctors in Australia can be legally obtained to help people quit smoking in Australia.

In New Zealand, electronic cigarettes with Nigerine can be legally purchased as a controlled product. However, in these two countries/regions, manufacturers or retailers sell them to people under 18 years of age.
