Brazil cracks down on e-cigarette retail: 32 companies ordered to stop selling e-cigarettes

2022-09-05

On September 3, according to foreign reports, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice ordered 32 companies to stop selling e-cigarettes on Thursday. They have 48 hours to comply or face a $960 fine.

Brazil has banned vaping products since 2009. E-cigarette products are reportedly still readily available.

According to media reports, one of the businesses on the list is Carrefour, the country's largest supermarket with more than 1,000 stores.

A survey by Vital Strategies and the Federal University of Pelotas in the first quarter of 2022 showed that 19.7% of Brazilians aged 18 to 24 have tried e-cigarettes.
