British adult e-cigarette smokers hit a new high: a total of about 4.3 million, an increase of nearly 4 times in 10 years

A British report estimates that there are currently about 4.3 million adults in the UK who use e-cigarettes, a record high.

The British "Daily Mail" reported on the 28th that the smoking and health action group completed the above report based on a survey by the "public opinion" polling company. According to the survey of 13,000 British adults, the number of vapers in England, Wales and Scotland accounted for 8.3% of the adult population, a nearly four-fold increase from 1.7% a decade ago. It is estimated that among the e-cigarette smokers in these areas, about 2.4 million people have previously smoked regular cigarettes, 1.5 million people smoke both regular cigarettes and e-cigarettes, and 350,000 people have never smoked before.

Research by Action on Smoking and Health also shows that the number of current 11- to 17-year-old vapers in the UK is increasing despite laws prohibiting businesses from selling e-cigarettes to minors under the age of 18.

The report said that many people mistakenly believe that e-cigarettes are less harmful, so they hope to use e-cigarettes to help quit smoking. In this regard, Hazel Cheesman, an official with Action for Smoking and Health, said that choosing e-cigarettes to quit cigarettes "is not effective for everyone", with a success rate of less than 50%.

The World Health Organization released a report last year saying that e-cigarette manufacturers have launched tens of thousands of flavors to attract young consumers and promoted the low harm of e-cigarettes. But e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is harmful to health and must be strictly regulated to prevent young people from becoming addicted. (End) (Jing Jing)
