Cambodian police oppose e-cigarette use: but cannot take action against users

2022-07-16

Cambodian authorities are stepping up a nationwide campaign against vaping, targeting students and youth.

Cambodian law prohibits the sale, consumption and import of e-cigarettes. However, there is no information on any consequences of using or selling vaping products.

According to Khmer Times, no legal action can be taken against users or sellers, but authorities hope to reverse the trend of vaping by raising awareness about the ill effects of vaping and educating users about their stupidity.

Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, said General Meath Willis, secretary general of the National Drug Control Agency (NACD). Nicotine is highly addictive and can impair teenage brain development, which continues into the 20s and 20s. In addition to nicotine, e-cigarettes also contain harmful substances.

Cambodian authorities cannot arrest anyone using e-cigarettes. Police can only advise underage users.

“However, we can take action against people who secretly sell vaping devices. We are also looking at how to use existing laws and regulations to stop this threat to public health,” he said yesterday.
