E-cigarette controversy renews in New Zealand, CAPHRA: Anti-vaping jeopardizes 2025 smoke-free goal

2022-07-15

The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation of New Zealand (ARFNZ) recently released a video called "Spotlight on Vaping". Many teenagers in New Zealand are currently vaping. The local secondary school principals association claims that more than a quarter of students have vaped. Many people have spoken out against e-cigarettes.

But at the same time, some institutions have expressed support for e-cigarettes, believing that e-cigarettes can reduce smoking rates. Nancy Lucas, executive coordinator of the Coalition of Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates for Asia Pacific (CAPHRA), said: "New Zealand's Asthma and Respiratory Foundation has stirred up public sentiment against e-cigarettes, jeopardizing the country's 2025 smoke-free status. Target."
