Governor of New South Wales admits to occasionally smoking e-cigarettes: favorite mixed fruit flavors

2023-03-04

According to news on March 4, Dominic Perrottet, the governor of New South Wales, Australia, admitted to smoking electronic cigarettes in a radio interview.

Perrottet told 2Day FM's Hughesy, Ed & Erin that he vapes occasionally and that his favorite flavor is mixed fruit.

"Well, you can get a prescription for vaping, and we want to make sure it's done the right way," he said.

The governor was asked if he had stopped smoking.

"Yes, I did," he replied. "It's also a challenge for kids, we don't want to encourage them to vape."

Perrottet's admission comes as doctors push for tighter restrictions on vaping laws across the country.

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) is one of many organizations urging the federal government to ban personal importation of nicotine, tighten nicotine restrictions and protect children from predatory advertising and product design.

They are also pushing for plain packaging laws and plans to crack down on illegal advertising, promotion and sales.

Those calling for more regulation point to growing numbers of young people vaping and the widespread use of black-market nicotine e-cigarettes as major problems with the current framework.

Instead, this thriving black market—along with the benefits reported by those trying to quit and the inconsistency with tobacco laws—is also the main argument those in favor of deregulation use to bolster their case.

The NSW state election will be held on March 25.
