Researchers condemn the Australian medical institution to the e -cigarette position

2023-02-23

According to the news on February 23, according to Medical Express, 11 addictive scientists said that the Australian National Health and Medical Research Commission (NHMRC) statement on electronic cigarettes failed to meet the scientific standards expected by the leading national science institution.

The NHMRC statement was released in June 2022, which aims to provide public health suggestions on the security and impact of E-Cigarettes based on the review of the current evidence.

The criticism of the NHMRC statement published on the adDiction believes that the statement inaccurates the current evidence of electronic cigarettes. The author believes that NHMRC exaggerates the risk of e -cigarettes and does not compare it with smoking; mistakenly claims that teenagers' use of electronic cigarettes can cause subsequent smoking; and ignore the evidence of the benefits of electronic cigarettes in helping smoking quit.

NHMRC's statement also ignored evidence that the electronic cigarette may have positively impact public health and misuses the principle of prevention. This principle requires that policy makers will compare the risks of the product with delayed products.

"Many leading international scientists in this field support electronic cigarettes as the potential of improving the public health strategy than NHMRC." Said COLIN MENDELSOHN, the main author of the addictive article. "Especially, in the face of the huge public health burden caused by smoking, it is unreasonable to quote the principles of prevention to prevent smaller smokeless products."
