The New Zealand Ministry of Health requires manufacturers to check whether the nicotine concentration of electronic cigarettes exceeds the standard

2022-10-31

In comprehensive Chinese pioneering network of New Zealand, the Electronic Cigarette Regulatory Bureau of the New Zealand Department of Health has requested the importers and manufacturers of electronic cigarette products to inspect the nicotine concentration. If it exceeds the standard, it may be recalled.

Previously, the Fair Go program of TVZ reported that the Ministry of Health may receive false or misleading information about certain products nicotine content.

"Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act" requires the product to accurately marked the concentration of nicotine (MG/ML) on the product.

The Ministry of Health stated that all electronic cigarette products sold in New Zealand must notify the Ministry of Health through the national database "Health Consultation and Supervision Platform" (HARP).

The middle reaches of the electronic cigarette products cannot exceed 20 mg/ml, and nicotine salt products cannot exceed 50 mg/ml.

Manufacturers or importers of electronic cigarette products may face a fine of $ 400,000 for violation of the nicotine content. If the product constitutes an unacceptable health risk, the Health Director can also order the recall of the product.

The Ministry of Health is considering taking several steps to strengthen the monitoring of the regulations, including requiring manufacturers and importers to review the notifications submitted to HARP.

"If any notification found that its product nicotine salt content exceeds the standard, we will instruct them to withdraw the product notification and immediately stop selling related products, including distributors and retailers who may deposit these products."

Electronic cigarette shop owner checked the product all night

According to 1News, the owner of an electronic cigarette shop in Auckland was calling the supplier all night to see which products needed to be removed.

After discovering that some products have exceeded the standard, the Electronic Cigarette Regulatory Bureau of the Ministry of Health urges retailers to check the shelves.

SASAN SAID MOHAMMADI in the Auckland SVS electronic cigarette shop said that when he saw the warning of the Ministry of Health, he felt "a little surprised" and "confused". He said that the supervision of electronic cigarettes was not strict enough. "I think the Ministry of Health has not checked anything. I am a specialty store and a special online store. From last year to the present, I have never seen anyone to view."

Ben Youdan, head of the New Zealand Smokeless Action Organization (ASH), said it was unfair to the public.

He said: "If people are misleading and do not get the products they think they should get, it is worth worrying. It is transparent to those who suck in electronic cigarettes. New Zealand has adopted a very gentle way of regulatory method to push responsibility to push the responsibility Give the manufacturer. "
