UK warns against vaping in heat

2022-07-13

The British media issued warnings and reminders about the use of electronic cigarettes in hot weather. The following is the full text.

If you're an vaping person, then while you may be out in the sun this week, you may also want to remember to take some precautions.

Don't worry, this isn't one of those scare articles about how your vaping is going to kill you in some abstract way, it's just practical advice.

After all, the NHS recommends vaping as a way to quit smoking and they are the ones to listen to for this sort of thing.

You see, e-cigarettes -- like all electrical devices that run on batteries -- don't perform well in extreme heat or direct sunlight, and that's something you need to be aware of.

The first problem is obvious, metal gets hot in the sun, so don't leave it in the heat for too long and grab it because you might burn your hands.

That's not the main thing to worry about, though.

The truth is that the batteries in most e-cigarettes are not very good if exposed to extreme heat or sunlight because they contain lithium.

The same applies if you have a phone, tablet, laptop or digital camera.

You shouldn't leave either of these in the sun, and the same applies to your vaping.

The batteries in all of these devices are generally perfectly safe to use, but they can be a problem in some cases.

One such situation is extreme heat.

This means that it is very important not to place the e-cigarette in very hot places. Of course, you shouldn't leave it in your car.

The same rules that apply to dogs or children should apply to your vaping -- albeit for slightly different reasons and different importance.

We both slammed the doors open and immediately flinched from the heat. What do we expect? It's a big metal box.

In any case, the heat that can be reached in the car is probably too much for the lithium battery in the e-cigarette to operate safely.
