Vuse surpasses Juul to regain the US e-cigarette market champion

2022-06-07

SHENZHEN, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bluehole New Consumption, China’s leading e-cigarette media, today made an industry commentary on Vuse surpassing Juul to regain the top spot in the e-cigarette market in the United States.

The following is the full text of the report:

According to Nielsen data, in the two weeks ended April 9, 2022, thanks to the launch of the flagship product Vuse Alto, Vuse surpassed Juul to become the sales champion of the US e-cigarette market, with a market share of up to 35%. In 2021, more than 90% of Vuse's U.S. market revenue will come from Vuse Alto products. The re-topping in the US market further strengthens Vuse's global leadership.

Since being surpassed by Juul in 2017, Vuse has finally set another milestone as the best-selling e-cigarette brand in the U.S. again. The emerging brand Juul, founded in 2015, took only three years to occupy a huge 68% share of the US e-cigarette market, while Vuse's market share fell from 44.2% in 2016 to 10%.

In order to buck the decline in the competition with Juul, Vuse began to look for new manufacturers and vaping technology providers around the world, and considered launching a product that could disrupt the entire industry. In 2018, Vuse reached a cooperation with FEELM, the flagship atomization technology brand of SMOORE, and launched Vuse Alto in August of the same year.

Unlike Juul products that use traditional cotton coils, Vuse Alto uses FEELM ceramic coils to bring a revolutionary vaping experience and help Vuse start the Jedi counterattack. Since 2019, Vuse Alto has become one of the most popular e-cigarette products in the world, and Vuse's market share in the United States has soared. In 2021, Vuse announced to become the world's No. 1 e-cigarette brand, with an annual market share of 33.5% in the top five e-cigarette markets (US, Canada, France, Germany and the UK). These five markets account for approximately 75% of the total global e-cigarette market revenue (closed system). In December 2021, Vuse's market share in the US reached 35.9%. In just two years, Vuse managed to close the 27% market share gap, leaving only 0.1% behind Juul (36%).

The Vuse Alto features an industry-leading ceramic coil for a consistently silky smooth taste, longer cartridge life and excellent leak resistance. In addition, Vuse Alto has a rich and fragrant tobacco and mint flavor thanks to the extremely high taste reduction of FEELM ceramic coils. The product's competitive advantage has become increasingly prominent, especially after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned e-cigarettes other than tobacco and menthol flavors in February 2020. The FDA's move is aimed at addressing the prevalence of vaping products among teens. Meanwhile, Juul has been mired in controversy over teen marketing, facing a growing number of lawsuits in US states.

In October 2021, the FDA issued its first Marketing Authorization Order (Solo Products) to Vuse, confirming that Vuse products are beneficial to public health, particularly for adult addicted smokers who seek alternative products. In late April 2022, the FDA approved NJOY Ace for sale. This latest approved product also uses FEELM atomization technology, which once again confirms the harm reduction potential of FEELM ceramic coils. In addition, the Vuse Alto uses the same FEELM atomization technology as the NJOY Ace.
