April 1 - Belfast Council in Northern Ireland is reportedly considering banning anyone under the age of 18 from vaping in venues and establishments around the city.

According to Belfast Live, UUP John Kyle has tabled a motion, to be debated by the full council next week, calling on Belfast City Council to convene a working group with other stakeholders to consider measures to strengthen current legislation and enforcement relating to e-cigarettes.

The motion also calls for a ban on the use of e-cigarettes by anyone under the age of 18 in all city Hall rooms.

At a recent meeting of the council's standards and business committee, Councillor Kyle said: Part of the aim of the motion is to make people, particularly parents of young people, unaware of the dangers of e-cigarettes. This has become a common practice among children at school.

"Part of the aim is to publicise the issue and make people aware of it, so I would suggest going to the full council first and then going back to committee for consideration to address the issue - it would be helpful if we, as a council, gave some space to what is a growing public health problem."
