The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia has banned the promotion and sale of tobacco products at all levels of public and private educational institutions.


The Ministry of Education has banned public and private schools from any activity from the tobacco industry, such as charitable activities, according to Sur Sochetta, Deputy Secretary of State for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in a campaign to promote the Ministry of Education's recent ban on cooperation with the tobacco industry. , study visits, internships, exchange of experience or research. It is prohibited to accept sponsorship and support from the tobacco industry for various educational activities, and educational institutions are prohibited from providing venues for tobacco industry promotions or exhibition venues.


She said the campaign was about encouraging young people to get involved in preventing tobacco products from invading educational institutions in any form.


Tobacco use is the leading cause of death for about 15,000 Cambodians each year, costing an estimated $649 million in damages, according to a United Nations study.
