Cambodia's Westport will take action against e-cigarette users

2022-06-20

According to the Khmer Times, authorities in Sihanoukville will take stern action against e-cigarette users.

According to Westport Police Chief Zun Nalin, the authorities will take action against new cigarettes or e-cigarettes after parents and guardians are concerned about the impact of "vaping" on the health of young people and make requests.

Health experts point out that new cigarettes or e-cigarettes are becoming more and more popular among young people.

According to some studies, the use of e-cigarettes will increase the risk of respiratory diseases by about 30%, the smoking of traditional tobacco will increase by about 156%, and the combined use of the two will increase by 230%.

It should be mentioned that in 2021, Cambodia has enacted a ban on e-cigarettes in accordance with the requirements of the World Health Organization and the anti-smoking tobacco control group associated with Bloomberg.

In March this year, Cambodia’s National Anti-Narcotics Agency (NACD) has urged the country’s municipal, provincial authorities and all relevant agencies to strictly enforce the ban on the import, trafficking and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products (HTP) in Cambodia.
