Brazil is about to develop a regulatory policy for e-cigarettes

2023-07-12

Recently, Brazil's National Health Supervision Bureau revealed that it plans to start a public consultation on e-cigarette regulation in the second half of this year. According to CEO Antonio Barra Torres, the process is in the drafting stage of a draft standard.

The marketing, import and distribution of e-cigarettes are currently illegal in Brazil. Anyone importing equipment, accessories, refill packs and vapes can be subject to legal sanctions, such as fines of up to 1.5 million reais (about 2.24 million yuan).

During the public consultation process, social and economic activists participating in the discussion will submit statements, comments or suggestions to the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency before the deadline. The public consultation content will be consolidated by the technology sector and then submitted by Barra Torres to the agency's Board of Directors, who will make the final decision on the regulation.
