Tobacco harm reduction groups celebrate third World E-Cigarette Day

2022-06-15

On May 30, multiple tobacco harm reduction and vaping advocacy groups, including the global consumer organization World Vaping Alliance (WVA), celebrated World Vaping Day. The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness about the relative safety of e-cigarettes and their potential as a harm reduction and smoking cessation tool, with the aim of encouraging smokers who are unable to quit on their own to quit by switching to safer alternatives.

World E-Cigarette Day, held the day before World No Tobacco Day

World E-Cigarette Day was deliberately held the day before WHO's World No Tobacco Day, hoping to draw attention to the fact that safer alternatives could help reduce smoking rates.

"Together we want to tell the world that millions of smokers have turned to vaping and live better lives, and we call on advocates and consumers to raise their voices, promote vaping, and help current vapers are also switching to e-cigarettes. We have seen many unfounded attacks on e-cigarettes by the World Health Organization, and on World Vaping Day, we want to counteract this misinformation.” Michael Randall, director of the World Vaping Alliance Say.

The WVA's press release highlights that this year's World Vaping Day theme revolves around celebrating harm reduction through vaping as one of the most effective strategies to quit smoking. The program for the event includes conversations with harm reduction experts, testimonials from vapers and vaping activists from around the world, and many different events around the vaping issue.
